Drawing and Such, Life, Obstacle course, Stefan Sagmeister, Things I have learned in my life so far
This year, my life is trying to swallow me whole. Now, I’m thankful for this life and all, but I just can’t seem to keep up. Let’s face it, I’m not perfect.
So this is what I’ve learned. Let’s start with story.
I’m at work as usual, Monday to Sunday 1:30-10:00 pm or 4:00-10 pm and all that jazz. It’s Itty Bitty night. This is the night when all the parents bring their kids for free daycare and up to six free meals (yes, it is a good deal). These nights are especially long, they go on for ever and the lines don’t stop until the doors are locked. This past Thursday went typically long, and then things just got worse. I just couldn’t get anything right. I KNOW. We all make mistakes. However; sometimes we just FAIL MISERABLY. This night was one such night. I couldn’t count, was unable to fix plumbing (this is not one of my skills, we’ll talk about that later) and couldn’t keep up with the cleaning. Over all, a horrible day in the life of Ashley.
Alright so back to what I’ve learned. Now lately I’ve been going through the motions. Life is wearing me thin. I go to school, go to work, go to sleep then do it all again. I don’t have time for myself and the things that I would like to accomplish. That Thursday night I came home and checked Facebook after work, because yes, I’m an addict. My horoscope for that day popped up in my notifications. And not that I have any real faith in these things at all, but sometimes they just make sense, or are funny enough to turn a rough day into a manageable one.
So here’s the gist of it: Don’t let people overestimate your abilities. If you set the standard high, people are always going to expect more of you, until one day when it’s more than you can handle. After all, you are only one person who is not perfect. This is why you should set goals for yourself. Make time to learn something new, try something you haven’t done before and go somewhere you have never been.
And that day, it just made sense.
So, my goal for this year is to put that into practice. Set goals for myself. I am going to take note of something new I learn each week. Whether it is a new skill, a life lesson, a trade, a hobby or anything else that I could possibly learn. I am on my way to becoming a more well rounded person. I just have to make it through the obstacle course.
This week, I’ve begun to learn to knit. I would really love to know how to knit a scarf. It’s a good start.
